Jamie Lyford – Director (BCom, LLB, LLM(IP), PGradDipIT)

Jamie has extensive experience in the areas of IP, commercialisation, innovation and technology, franchising, trade marks and branding having worked with a number of well-known local and interstate law and patent firms, internationally with a specialist technology law firm as well as in-house with both a globally recognised resources company and a multinational IT services provider.

Jamie has worked with a wide range of well-known companies and governmental agencies as well as a number of smaller companies and a variety of start-ups within Australia, Europe and the US.

Grace Ng – Lawyer (LLB BA)

Grace began working with Elevation Legal in February 2010 after graduating from Murdoch University with Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degrees and majoring in Politics and International Studies. She is fluent in conversational Cantonese and has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Chinese Law in Hong Kong. Grace has a keen interest in intellectual property law and alternative dispute resolution. Grace is passionate about human rights law development in third world countries.

She has had previous experience in the areas of wills and estates, commercial contracts and property conveyance in her position as law clerk at a Perth law firm specialising in property law. During her time at university, she was elected Vice-President (Administration) and Third-Year Student Representative. She was also selected as Senior Mooting Competitions Coordinator and Peer Mentor to other law students. She relishes the opportunity of gaining more hands-on experience in commercial legal practice and a greater understanding in the technical areas of IP and technology commercialisation.

 

SPECIALIST INDUSTRY CONSULTANTS 

Peter van Bruchem – Commercialisation Consultant (LLB, LLM)

Peter is a director of Acceleration Venture Catalysts with significant intellectual property and technology commercialisation knowledge and business development experience. Peter is a former lawyer and has worked as a senior adviser to the Western Australian Government on the administration and commercialisation of government owned IP and innovations. Peter has written and presented extensively on the management and commercialisation of IP and was the primary author of the Western Australian Government’s Intellectual Property Policy and Best Practice Guidelines. Peter has worked as a freelance Intellectual Property and commercialisation adviser to government agencies, universities and private companies both in Australia and the United Kingdom. Peter has also worked as a Business Development Manager in a UK University and has also been an adviser and mentor to high tech ventures established by University Students and Graduates in Scotland. Peter does not practice as a solicitor.

Peter has supported the IP industry as follows:

  • Former State Chair of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand
  • Former committee member of the Licensing Executive Society of Australia and New Zealand

Jim Davies – Domain Name & IP Consultant (MA (Hons); PGradCert – BusComputing)

Jim Davies has represented clients in many of the UK and Australia’s leading domain name disputes. He has probably acted in more appellate Nominet DRS cases than anyone else. His reported cases including successfully preventing the transfers of MySpace.co.ukOasis.co.uk and Verbatim.co.uk. He also ensured that HeyHeyItsSaturday.com.au was not transferred when the television show of that name was revived.

Jim has also been involved in a large number of high value domain name sales, where his unique knowledge of the market has ensured that his clients have secured the best possible outcome in the transaction. He also advises widely on ecommerce and Internet related issues. His background also includes representing the Champagne wine industry in a landmark Court of Appeal case in London.

Jim is a former non-executive director of Nominet, the UK domain name registry. He has an MA (Hons) degree from Cambridge University.

Jim is admitted to practice as a solicitor in England & Wales.  Jim is not yet admitted to practice as a legal practitioner in Western Australia.
